**The challenges of being Vegan in an omnivorous world. **
Starting your journey into Veganism is literally changing the habits of a lifetime. There will be struggles, temptations and moments when your willpower is tested almost to breaking point. At these times we must remember why we became Vegan.
Ethical? Environmental? Health?
Let’s start off looking at the environmental factors when we consume animal products. Animal agriculture produces more greenhouse gases than all transportation put together. 136 million acres of forest land have so far been destroyed to farm animals. It takes 2 months’ worth of showers to make just one hamburger. So if you’re concerned about the environment; switching to a plant based diet could save 5000L of water, 3m2 of forest land and 9kg of CO2 per day!
I love what my mind and body have become since switching to a plant based diet. These are just a small handful of benefits you can expect to find when going Vegan. After an initial detox, skin becomes clear, smooth and soft. Your ideal body weight is reached as bloating and fat disappear!
Your energy levels increase as metabolism reaches homeostasis. Mental clarity – Thinking and processing new information becomes easy! And finally… Sexaholic – Eating fruits and veggies results in an extremely high sex drive!
I began to wonder why we cuddled some animals then stuck a fork in others. Compassion is the deep awareness of the suffering of another coupled with the wish to relive it. The problem is humans have victimised animals to such a degree that they are not even considered victims. They are not even considered at all. They are nothing. They don’t count; they don’t matter, they’re commodities. We have actually turned animals into inanimate objects.
Going vegan isn’t changing your beliefs. We already knew hurting others is wrong, we already loved animals, we already wanted to alleviate poverty and we already wanted our planet to survive. Going vegan is just aligning your actions to match up with those beliefs. It’s as simple as that!
