Preston City Centre cafe Ham and Jam have closed their doors, blaming the decline in footfall caused by renovations to the bus station and Lancaster Road.
The Eatery had become popular among local art fans, regularly hosting music and poetry evenings while serving hot and cold beverages.
Now due to the building work happening around the venue causing roads to be closed off, Ham and Jam have lost custom as footfall in the area has dwindled.
Owner Richard Lowthian said via Blog Preston, ‘The regeneration initiatives at Preston Bus Station and Victorian Market has also dramatically reduced passing trade on Lancaster Road.
‘As a result, the shop’s owner Richard Lowthian has been forced to consider the future of the business as the fixed costs including rent to the city council and business rates are too high – but his attempt to get these reduced have so far failed.’
