What was the last horror film you watched that truly scared you? Over the years there have been numerous attempts to create the next best horror film… and many have failed – Truth or Dare is a prime example of this.
If you’re a horror fan, you will have heard of the latest film to hit the cinema: The Nun. A prequel to The Conjuring 2, this supernatural horror is the fifth film of the Conjuring films; so how did it fare compared to the others?
Take a look at the trailer above.
If you haven’t seen The Nun yet, spoiler alert! If you’re a huge fan of American Horror Story, you will recognise the actress in this film, Taissa Farmiga, a prominent character in the successful series. However, even with a strong actress and a Hollywood producer; James Wan (known for Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring), the film doesn’t live up to its hype.
For 90 minutes, we follow a priest and a Catholic novitiate as they investigate a secret mystery in 1952 Romania. Throughout, it seemed like your typical horror film, trying too hard to scare the audience. However, it just became predictable and dare we say boring the longer the film went on.
From the Conjuring films, we have an understanding of the nun character, and this film delves more into her background. In the end, it seemed like an unnecessary film, kind of like Jigsaw… pointless.
With only a 26% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s easy to understand why. Fear not Horror fans, there are still plenty of thrillers still to come in 2018, including; Climax, The House with a Clock in its Walls, and Halloween.
For those of you who have seen it, what did you think of The Nun? For those who haven’t, are you going to give it a watch?
