UCLan have recognized the talents of numerous students at the Lancashire Arts Festival Awards. Some…
Over the weekend we saw the Lancashire Encounter Festival and I have to say, it’s been interesting!
Heading down on behalf of the Preston Hub it was amazing to find a large variety of events that were taking place; a Virtual Reality experience that left me in awe, a reality playground of old video games that left me out of breath, but more importantly a performance that left me even more breathless.
BLOCK is an outdoor theatre experience that entwines parkour, drama and dance into one amazing spectacle.
There are gymnastics that left me in suspense throughout the performance, which lasted a full 40 minutes, in which none of the performers appeared to break a sweat.
Utilising a stage that consisted of simple blocks, that were constructed in a Jenga like fashion, the performers twisted, flung and lunged around the stage at an incredible pace.
At one point, one of the performers performed a headstand on a single beam, 20 foot in the air, with the other performers flying around, stood on each other’s shoulders, or flinging themselves from great heights.
The best part of it? It’s all free! The performances take place at regular intervals throughout the day so keep an eye out for next year’s event!
