A homeless man has reportedly been “jumped on like a trampoline” by three people as he slept in his tent in Blackpool on the Promenade.
The 55-year-old homeless man, named Igor Gieci, was left “battered” after the attack with noticeable bruising. Police say that the “Unprovoked and prolonged” attack took places in the early hours of yesterday morning with Gieci being taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for significant facial injuries.
Police are looking for the culprits – Believed to be 17-18 years of age.
In broken English, the Slovakian told The Blackpool Gazette: “Me speak ‘Please, stop it, stop it, what is me problem, me no problem.” The boys, who had hoods up, smacked Mr Gieci with his own crutches and took his basic Alcatel mobile phone, which he fears they threw in the Irish Sea to stop him calling police, before they strolled off like “normal.” His tent was also ripped and thrown away.
Mr Gieci said he went to the tourist information centre after the attack, and was taken to the council’s housing office in Albert Road before being driven to hospital by a council worker.
