A tragic court case in Liverpool is taking place following allegations of a toddler’s manslaughter.
19-month-old Ellie May Minshull Coyle was said to have her breathing compromised after being restrained in her own bed.
Ellie May’s mother, Lauren Coyle, is on trial alongside two other men for the death of the young child.
The death occurred in Ellie May’s home in Lostock Hall, where mother Lauren was living with boyfriend Reece Hitchcott and friend Connor Kirby.
All three are denying manslaughter charges, as the prosecution claims that the death was ‘unnecessary, pointless and wholly avoidable’.
It has been reported to the court that Ellie May had her ankles bound together and was being restrained in a facedown position.
The prosecution said, ‘Ellie May at some point vomited onto her bedding and pillow. Eventually, her heart stopped beating and she stopped breathing. The placing of the duvet over her body would have complicated matters further and may well have resulted in hyperthermia.’
Lauren’s father, Sean Coyle, visited his daughter’s home where he discovered that his grand-daughter had stopped breathing.
Paramedics were called to the scene and made attempts to resuscitate her.
After arriving at Royal Preston Hospital, Ellie May was declared deceased.
The trial is expected to continue for the next several weeks at Liverpool’s Crown Court.
