Stagecoach have announced that they are cancelling the 113 service between Preston and Wigan.
The route, which is used by thousands of people every year, was previously amended earlier this year following the withdrawal of the 150/151 services between Preston and Bamber Bridge.
A petition has been set up to complain against ending the service, which has gathered more than 1,000 signatures.
The petition was set up by Chorley Councillor Km Snape, who said; “This will affect communities across South Ribble and the surrounding villages of Croston, Ulnes Walton, Eccleston along with many others. Some places will be left with little or no bus provision”.
“Public transport should be about providing people with a public service, not about profit”.
Stagecoach released a statement saying; “From Monday 7th January, services 113 will be withdrawn. The service has suffered from declining passenger numbers for a long period of time, and the recent addition of alternative bus services in areas and the 113 passes through, has increased this decline in passenger numbers”.
