Preston Police have arrest a man in Bamber Bridge on suspicion of smuggling illegal immigrants into the country.
The man, believed to be a German lorry driver and aged 51, was arrested on Weds (20th Feb) after two Iraqi nationals were found inside the trailer of his lorry. The lorry was positioned in Bamber Bridge near to Lostock Lane at 8.15pm when police stopped the vehicle. Members of the public had made enquiries to the police, forcing officers to conduct a search – To which they discovered a man and child hiding away.
Preston Police have reported the incident to the home office and immigration officers attended the scene.
The man and child are believed to father-and-son.
A Home Office spokesperson said; “Home Office Immigration Officers were contacted by Lancashire Police on Weds 20th February after police officers attended an incident on Lostock Lane, Bamber Bridge in Preston”.
“A 51-year-old German man was arrested and charged with assisting unlawful immigration”.
“A man and a minor, presenting themselves as Iraqi nationals, were referred to the Home Office. The minor has been passed into the care of social services”.
