Making A Murderer’s Steven Avery Has Retrial Appeal Denied By Judge

Convicted killer and star of Making A Murderer Steven Avery has lost his appeal for a new trial.

Avery is serving a life sentence, along with co-conspirator and nephew Brendan Dassey, for the murder of Theresa Halbach.

Theresa’s death and opinions around Avery’s trial become huge on social media following Netflix releasing a docu-series about the incident.

Judge Angela Stkiewicz who was presented with an appeal for a retrial based on the argument that some evidence was mishandled decided the argument was not relevant.

The judge said, “Dr. Eisenberg also testified that the material found in the Quarry was largely unburned. This does not support the defendant’s argument that the victim was murdered and burned in a place other than the Avery property and placed there at a later date.”

Avery’s lawyer, Kathleen Zellner, said following the decision, “We are not surprised by this ruling. In the greater scheme of things it is not important. The appellate court has jurisdiction of the entire appeal which has numerous issues. The appellate and supreme court of Wisconsin will make the decisions that matter on these issues and establish precedent on these issues.”
