Preston North End have tough selection choices to make when they face Bradford City in the Carabao Cup tonight (13th August).
The season has started with one win and one defeat for North End in the Championship, against Wigan and Millwall respectively.
A great 3-0 result and solid performance, especially for midfielders Paul Gallagher and Daniel Johnson, against Wigan Athletic would have made manager Alex Neil very pleased.
However, now the gaffer has to figure out if he should choose to retain a similar starting line up to Saturday, to keep the momentum from that result, or, bring in the likes of Jayden Stockley and Ryan Ledson who are yet to start this season.
Neil told pnefc.net that he is having difficulty picking teams at the moment, having to leave out the likes of Josh Ginnely who didn’t even make the bench for last weekend’s fixture.
He also said, “The lads are very competitive here, in a good way, and I am very confident that we will go there, the lads will perform and hopefully we will get the right result.
“It’s exciting [that new signings Andre Green and Tom Bayliss could get their first starts]. Everyone wants to see new players and like the other lads we have got, this is a good opportunity for them and I fully expect them to go and put a good performance on and show why we brought them to the club and also really pushing for a starting place this year.”
Should North End make it through the first round of what is traditionally known as the League Cup tonight, their next round opponents will be revealed shortly after the final whistle, during the second round draw.
