The Mayor of Preston is encouraging people to come an join him at a charity garden party to support veterans and the military community.
David Borrow is supporting the event which will be hosted by North West charity Dig In. The organisation uses gardening as a therapeutic tool for military veterans.
According to a spokesman for Dig In North West, “The idea is simple. People get together and do something practical that benefits both themselves and serves others – and maybe also helps a team-mate through a tough time.
“You can come here to garden; growing plants in the greenhouse for us to sell, or food in the garden to share with the group. You can learn a new practical skill such as carpentry, photography or stonemasonry. You can go fishing or out on various trips.”
A spokesman for the event said, “The Mayor of Preston, Councillor David Borrow, would like to invite you to a charity garden party on Sunday 18th August from 1pm to 5pm.
“It will be hosted by Dig In which is in the Walled Garden of Ashton Park. There will be a free buffet, a pay bar, cake stall, raffle and tombola etc.
“Dig In is a charity working with veterans and the military community mainly through gardening and wood working.
“People can come to garden; growing plants in the greenhouse to be sold on or food in the garden to share with the group. They can learn new practical skills such as carpentry, photography or stonemasonry.”
