A man has been remanded into custody and will appear at Preston Crown Court today (August 22nd) after being charged with murder.
William Beattie, a 47-year-old from Blackpool, was arrested on July 23rd after another man had been assaulted in Blackpool.
The victim, Gary Williams, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital by ambulance after police were called to a report of an assault on Lytham Road, Blackpool. Unfortunately, Williams died a few days later.
According to Lancashire Police, a post mortem examination found that William’s death was the result of significant head trauma.
Beattie was initially charged with assault when he was arrested in July, however, that charge has now been changed to murder following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service.
On July 26th, we reported that Det Ch Insp Jill Johnston, of Lancashire Police, said, “This is an incredibly sad and tragic set of circumstances and my thoughts are very much with Gary Williams’ family and friends at this difficult time.
“Following Mr Williams’ post mortem, a causal link has been established between the assault and his death. Given this information, we are now treating his death as a murder investigation.”
