South Ribble Borough Council announced yesterday that Love Island star Molly Mae will be the celeb of honour at this year’s Leyland light switch-on.
The reaction to the announcement was mixed, with some residents annoyed that money is being spent on a reality star rather than in the community.
Councillor Aniela Bylinksi Gelder, Cabinet Member for Community Engagement, Social Justice and Wealth Building at South Ribble Borough Council, said, “I would like to thank the Leyland Town Team for the dedication, work and commitment they give to put Leyland on the map.
“The Leyland Town Team fundraises throughout the year to secure the funds to deliver the Leyland Christmas Festival, including the lights, TV star and live music.
“The council will be supporting this event, with Hough Lane closed to traffic, and by facilitating stalls, Santa’s Grotto, and fairground rides.
“There promises to be something for visitors of all ages.
“I hope we can attract people from all across South Ribble.”
Matt Burton – Cancel Molly Mae and fill the potholes in the roads with the £5k / £10k she will be demanding!!
Charles Lawrence – Great work from the Leyland Town Team each year it gets bigger and better keep it up 👌
AJ Bell – It will put Leyland on the map as a laughing stock. TV star?? Really……what a waste of money
Paul Cooper – Who is Molly Mae? Does she live in Leyland? Own a butty shop or hair dressers? Seriously?
