Jake Higham will be attempting the 26-mile run to raise money for the cancer charity.
Jake has chosen Cancer Research because of how the disease has affected his family and friends.
He said, “The disease has affected my family in the past, and a very close family friend is currently fighting a battle with cancer,
“So I decided I’m going to try and raise as much money as I can on behalf of them and everyone else who has been affected,
“Everyone knows somebody who has been affected by the disease, so its a cause that’s close to many peoples hearts and I’ll do my best to raise as much as I can!”
The young man from Preston relishes the gruelling challenge he will be facing,
“From a young age, I’ve always wanted to run a marathon, I enjoy pushing and challenging myself, so I decided to sign up for the Edinburgh Marathon and raise as much money as I can for Cancer Research UK!”
Whilst he is already a confident runner, Jake knows a marathon is no easy feat and has a plan to get himself ready,
“The Marathon is just under 3 months away, so I haven’t actually started any training yet!
“I play football for a team called Squires Gate in Blackpool, so my running at the moment consists of when we train and have matches,
“I usually try and get out for a long-distance run every couple of weeks, but to make sure I’m prepared for it I’ve made a training plan that I’ll start around 2 months before, hopefully that works!”
He is also very keen to raise as many funds as he can for the cancer charity,
“My main focus at the moment is trying to fundraise and raise as much as I can, so I’ll be asking family and friends for any donations and for them to share my page!”
Jake will be running the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday 24th May, if you would like to help him reach his target you can donate to his Justgiving page here.
