Vue Cinema has joined Odeon and Cinema World in shutting down their movie theatres following the Prime Minister’s urge to continue social distancing.
Employees of the national chain were sent text messages and emails asking them not to come to work unless ‘you are a manager’.
An email sent to Vue employees stated:
“We will not be opening our UK and Ireland cinemas to the public from today until further notice. Unless you are a manager rostered for work today, please do not go to work. We will keep all our staff updated.”
Employees in Preston, as we understand, have not been informed as to whether or not they will get paid any form of sick leave while they are forced to take time off.
Odeon has more than 120 cinemas in the UK and Ireland that are expected to close, while Cineworld has 100, and also runs 24 Picturehouse sites.——
