Royal Preston Hospital Staff ‘Overwhelmed’ By Kindness Of Prestonians

Staff at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals have been overwhelmed by offers of support and acts of kindness from local restaurants and shops while under increasing pressure due to coronavirus.

The likes of Nando’s, Silk Route Indian Restaurant and Thomas Moss Wholesalers have sent fresh food to Critical Care, Major Trauma and Emergency departments at Royal Preston Hospital to ensure staff are fed while working busy shifts.

The team at TK Maxx in Preston, headed up by Team Leader Denis Sahinovic, has sent Easter eggs and other confectionery to the children’s unit and to staff who are  working around the clock to care for patients  and their families during the coronavirus outbreak.

Karen Partington, Chief Executive at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said:

“At such a challenging, unprecedented time, it is so heart-warming to see local businesses reaching out to show their support to our staff. All of our teams are working incredibly hard to continue providing the best possible standards of care, so these gestures of kindness are greatly appreciated and do not go unnoticed. We are so grateful to TK Maxx for thinking of us, as we have now been able to distribute these treats to deserving young patients and staff.  We are also making up hampers for our wards and departments in the coming weeks. On behalf of our staff, we want to thank each and every local person or business who has shown their support.”

Sally McCluskie, Matron for the Children and Young People’s Unit at Royal Preston Hospital, said:

“It was such a pleasure to be able to share Easter eggs and chocolate with the children and young people across our unit today, bringing lots of smiles at this difficult time. Thank you so much to Denis and the team for thinking of us.”
