A sight loss charity in Preston becomes the first charity in Lancashire to launch an ‘Alexa Skill’ to offer support during UK isolation.
Galloways, one of Lancashire’s oldest and most established charities, has launched a service to support those with sight loss while at home.
The Alexa skill can be activated to perform a selection of tasks or to discuss services and events.
A spokesman for Galloway’s said:
“We are really excited about the launch of our skill as it will benefit not just those with sight loss.
“With social isolation becoming a bigger issue for the wider community following the coronavirus emergency, we know how valuable keeping in touch with the outside world is.
“Following government guidance to restrict face to face contact, we have been working hard to find innovative ways of supporting blind and partially sighted people and the Alexa skill will be a vital tool in ensuring people keep informed and connected.
“Through the Alexa skill, we also hope to attract a wider audience for our audio magazine, The Galloway’s Eye and tell more people about what we do.”
