New Coronavirus figures have shown that nine people died in Preston care homes after being infected by the virus.
Those nine deaths can not be explicitly reported as caused by the COVID-19 virus, but it has been revealed that the victims were infected prior to their passing.
The Office for National Statistics has released data which shows that in Preston, a total of 76 COVID-19 related deaths were provisionally registered up to May 16.
Of those, 15 occurred outside of hospital – including nine in care homes and five at private homes. A further death occurred in a hospice, another community establishment or elsewhere.
A Department of Health and Social Care spokeswoman said: “Every death from this virus is a tragedy and our deepest sympathies go out to the families who have sadly lost relatives.
“Supporting the social care sector throughout this pandemic is a priority. We are working around the clock to give the social care sector the equipment and support they need.”
