Police Appeal For Suspected Arson Attack

Detectives are appealing for information after a vehicle was set alight in a suspected arson attack in Darwen.

Officers were called at 3.36am today (October 5th) to reports a jerry can had been set alight outside a property in Westminster Close.

As a result a Nissan Micra caught fire and suffered significant damage.

Nobody was injured as a result of the incident.

A 20-year-old man from Darwen has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.He remains in custody.

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses and are especially keen to speak to anybody who saw two men acting suspiciously in the area at the time to come forward.

Sgt Mark Hogan, from East CID, said: “This is an extremely serious offence which could have easily resulted in serious injury. Although we believe this was a targeted attack reassurance patrols have been stepped up in the area.

“Our investigation is ongoing and we want to hear from anybody with information about the offence or anybody who saw anything suspicious in the area to get in contact with police. We’d also ask people to check their CCTV systems for anything suspicious from around that time.”
