Baby Mae Celebrates First Birthday With £600 Donation To Preston’s Neo-Natal Unit

Royal Preston Hospital has raised more than £600 for the unit from donations received for her first birthday.

Mae McGowan-Etheridge was seriously ill when she was born on October 8 last year and is making the donation through Baby Beat, the charity supporting services for babies and parents at maternity and neonatal services run in Preston and Chorley by Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

Mum Lauren asked friends and family for donations instead of presents for Mae’s first birthday to say thank you to the Neo Natal Unit team.

Lauren said: “Without the Preston Neonatal Unit we might not have our beautiful baby girl. We owe them more than we can put into words, as Mae was born without her heart and lungs functioning.

“One year on and she is the happiest, healthiest little girl and we couldn’t be more blessed to have her in our lives. I’m just happy to give a little back to a team that have truly given me the world.

“We hope this money can help them continue the amazing work they do day in and day out. We will be forever grateful for everything they have done for us.”

Baby Beat Manager Cathy Skidmore said: “What an amazing and touching gesture to support Baby Beat.

“We’re so happy to see Mae looking so healthy, and we’d all like to wish her a happy birthday!”
