Happy Bunnies are joining Marcus Rashford’s cause by delivering the food boxes this week over half-term to children who receive free school meals.
The Premier League footballer has been campaigning on social media recently to get free meals for children during the half-term holiday.
There has been a response from cafes and restaurants up and down the country pledging free meals for underprivileged children after the government voted against extending free school meals during half term.
Happy Bunnies owner, Donna Lambert, had planned a getaway but changed her mind after the government’s vote:
“It absolutely breaks our heart to think children will unnecessarily go hungry. We had put aside a bit of money to go on a short staycation but we feel that our money would be better spent on families that really need it during these difficult times.
“If your child receives free school meals due to low income, universal credit etc, please get in touch. If you know someone who may benefit from this, please let them know. There are no requirements to purchase anything, no judgement & everything will remain confidential. It’s not a lot but if we can feed 100+ children that the government won’t do then it’s definitely better than that!”
The cafe had originally pledged to make 100 meals but have increased that amount after an amazing community response of donations:
“The response & support has been overwhelming and now means we can provide 200 boxes which is double. We have taken the decision now to deliver, in case people are isolating or have no mode of transport.
“We decided to do this as times have been incredibly difficult for everyone, so it is nice to be able to give something back. Our doors may be currently closed but our compassion & support for our community isn’t!”
Each box will contain a sandwich, pack of crisps, sausage roll, juice drink, fruit and a sweet treat.
They will be delivering the meals from Wednesday till Friday to different areas of Preston, here is the delivery schedule:
𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲: Longton, Penwortham, Lostock Hall, Bamber Bridge, Walton le Dale
𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲: Leyland, Whittle, Clayton le Woods, Clayton Brook, Buckshaw

You can still donate to the Happy Bunnies Paypal here to help them feed even more children in Preston.
