New technology has been introduced in England to help clinicians identify for the first time, a new group of people who may be at high risk from COVID-19.
Around 1.7 million people nationally will be identified, who will be prioritised in stages to receive a vaccine as part of the current vaccination cohorts.
Those affected will be sent a letter from NHS England in the coming days explaining that they should follow shielding measures due to being classed as clinically extremely vulnerable.
These people will also be eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible if they haven’t already had the jab. Local GP’s will also be notified.
Those who were already being asked to shield until 21 February will also receive a letter encouraging them to continue shielding until 31 March.
You do not need to do anything unless you receive these letters. For more information about shielding, visit: http://bit.ly/37rhTRP
Though yesterday’s announcement provided light at the end of the tunnel, we understand that this remains a difficult time, especially for those who have been shielding for a lengthy period.
