Commuters faced 5 hours of traffic yesterday (Friday 9th) after a horrendous crash near J25 in Wigan.
The M6 northbound was closed between junctions 25 (Ashton Interchange) and 25 (Bryn Interchange) at around 1pm, and only re-opened at around 6pm.
The southbound side was closed from 1pm-1.40pm because one of the vehicles involved in the crash, a lorry, was carrying “Hazardous substances”.
According to The Lancashire Post, a spokesperson for Highways Police said; “The M6 northbound at J25 (Wigan A49) closure is currently in the process of being reopened.”
“Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the scene and motorists were advised to avoid the area if possible.”
“60 minute delays and five miles of bumper-to-bumper traffic was reported in the area following the collision.”
Details of any injuries or the identities of the people involved has not yet been released.
