Chorley Wrestler Takes On 50-Mile Challenge For Local Hospice

Christopher Shaw wanted to stay fit during lockdown so he has been doing fitness challenges, his latest is running 50 miles for Derian House.

The Chorley wrestler who goes by Chris Stone when he is in the ring was looking for ways to keep active whilst in lockdown.

He took on a few fundraising challenges to support good causes.

Since he was born in Chorley and has seen the great work that Derian House does, he decided to do a new fundraising challenge to support the hospice:

“It started to keep active in the first lockdown. I’m a wrestler with the LWF (Lancashire Wrestling Federation) and we set our challenge to run 1000 miles in 30 days to raise money for the wrestling school.

“Since then I have done a few challenges raising money for different charities ( Maggie Cancer Centre and Prostate Cancer). Being a Chorley lad, I grew up with Derian House on my doorstep. I went to school just down the road at Buckshaw primary school.”

Christopher noticed many fundraising challenges for different charities but none for Derian so he made his own:

“There are lots of charity challenges but none for Derian House so this is why I just created my own challenge. I was going to do a 10 km inflatable obstacle course last September but we all know what happened.

“Hopefully, I will get to do it this year with a few of my wrestler friends and raise a few more pounds for them.”

The challenge hasn’t been easy for him but he has worked hard to clock up the miles:

“I’m on track to complete it with a couple of days to spare all being well. It’s tough every time I go out running.

“I’m not a natural runner, 42 years old and 18 and half stone every day can be tough. Once I get out I’m fine but just having the motivation to get out sometimes is the most difficult.”

You can donate here to help Christopher raise as much as possible for Derian House.
