The Shelter charity shop in Fishergate Shopping Centre has sleeping bags which they are offering to anyone homeless or homeless charities.
The charity shop in Fishergate has recently been able to once again open its doors after being forced to close during lockdown.
They are hoping to help anyone who is homeless keep warm at night by offering free brand new sleeping bags to people in need.
Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through advice, support, and legal services.
Lisa Lane, The manager of the Shelter charity shop, said:
“We’ve had a few thousand brand new sleeping bags donated to us, we are selling them at £3 each but would also like to offer them free to anyone homeless or charities/churches that work with the homeless.”
Shelter has suffered from the closure of its charity shops during lockdown but Lisa admits that they have been busier than ever since they re-opened:
“The shelter shop has been here almost 3 years and we sell furniture and clothing. Shelter provide help, advice, legal representation, to anyone struggling with homelessness or bad housing, such as nightmare landlords or rent arrears.
“During lockdown, the shops were closed but our advice lines were busier than ever, with people worrying about financial issues etc. The charity itself has suffered due to lack of income from our shops but reopening has been amazing, it’s great to be back,
“We’ve been busier than ever but donations have been a little slow. We are selling the sleeping bags for £3 each, so great for kids camping out in the garden etc, but anyone who is homeless or people who help the homeless are welcome to call me and we can donate some.”
Shelter is also appealing for donations of furniture, they offer free furniture collection in Preston.
If anyone in need wants a free sleeping bag or people would like to donate furniture, they can call the shop on 01772 978870 or call in.
