Lancashire Volunteer Partnership Is Appealing For More Volunteers

The Partnership which has provided support to over 1,400 people during the Corona virus pandemic is recruiting new volunteers.

Lancashire Volunteer Partnership was established in 2016 between public services who wanted to provide one gateway into public service volunteering.

Their aim is to make volunteering for public services rewarding and to provide opportunities for people to make a real difference in their local communities.

The Volunteer Partnership is the one-stop shop for public service volunteering in Lancashire and was formed to support local services, tackle vulnerability and assisting in times of crisis and civil emergency.

So far LVP has supported over 1,400 people during the Coronavirus pandemic with their support offer.

As a result of the demand, they decided to provide an enhancement in supported services last year, which includes Community Support Befriending.

This service provides a telephone befriender, collection of essential shopping items and medication for those in long term self-isolation, the elderly and those eligible.

Julie Sumner and Ian Sewart, Lancashire Volunteer Partnership Mangers said: “We can’t praise our volunteers enough and are so grateful for their support.

“They make a tremendous difference, and this is proven by two of our Telephone Befrienders becoming winners of the national NHS Helpforce Awards for their support to vulnerable/isolated people last year.

“Now that things are on the up, with the easing of lockdown, naturally people’s circumstances change, so we are looking to recruit more volunteers to support those people who would massively benefit from a befriender.”

LVP is particularly wanting to attract volunteers within the Wyre, Chorley and West Lancashire districts, so if you or someone that you know would like to become a Community Support Befriender, you can visit their website here for more information.

The Partnership is currently recruiting for Community Support Befrienders who can support the isolated and lonely with a telephone conversation and/or shopping and prescriptions collecting.
