Long-awaited plans for a specialist Maths school in Preston have been approved.
The new school will be located on London Road and be a collaboration between Lancaster University and Cardinal Newman College.
It was approved with conditions such as a time limit to complete the development. The building will be four-storey’s and accommodate 260 students aged 16-18.
The proposed building will be a four and part three-storey building and the fourth floor of the building recessed away from London Road by a roof terrace, which will give the appearance of a three storey building on the front.
Lancaster University School of Mathematics will deliver Maths A-Level education to the most able students in Lancashire and the North West.
It will be funded by the Department for Education.
The curriculum will be focussed on mathematics, the sciences and computing due to being a specialist school.
All nine committee members voted in favour of the plans.
